1. What cookies and local storage are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. localStorage is a related browser feature that keeps data on your device but — unlike a cookie — is never transmitted with network requests. Both are “storage technologies” under the EU ePrivacy rules, so both are covered by this policy.
Circuitbrowsly relies almost entirely on localStorage, which is why your speed test history stays on your machine and never travels to us.
2. Our approach in one paragraph
We use two essential localStorage keys: one to remember your consent choice and one to keep your recent results so the history table and comparison chart work. Two optional categories exist — performance analytics and anonymous benchmark sharing — and both are switched off unless you explicitly turn them on. There are no advertising, retargeting or social-media cookies anywhere on this site.
3. Essential storage (always active)
These items are strictly necessary to deliver the functionality you asked for and therefore do not require consent. Blocking them will not break the measurement itself, but your history and preference will not persist between visits.

In addition, our host may set a short-lived security cookie to mitigate abuse and DDoS attacks. Such cookies contain no profiling data and are also classed as strictly necessary.
4. Optional categories

If you never enable these, no analytics or benchmark data is generated at all — the toggles simply stay off in your saved preference record.
5. Third-party endpoints and their cookies
To measure a real network path, your browser talks directly to independent services: Cloudflare speed endpoints, HTTPBin, optional Google/Microsoft latency probes, ipify and ipapi for IP information, plus Google Fonts, jsDelivr and the Tailwind CDN for assets. Those providers can see your IP address and may set their own security or performance cookies under their own policies. We do not control them and we receive nothing from them.
We deliberately avoid embedding social buttons, video players, chat widgets or ad tags, which are the usual sources of third-party tracking cookies.
6. Managing your consent
The consent banner appears on your first visit. You can revisit your choice at any time:
- open Cookie preferences — the banner reopens with the preferences panel expanded;
- tick or untick Performance analytics and Anonymous benchmark sharing;
- press Save preferences. The new choice replaces the old record immediately.
Reject non-essential keeps only the two essential keys described above.
7. Browser-level controls
You can block or delete cookies and site data in every major browser — usually under Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and site data. Look for the option to clear data “for this site” to remove Circuitbrowsly storage only:
- Chrome / Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / Site data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data.
- Safari (macOS): Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Safari (iOS) & Chrome (Android): Settings → Safari/Chrome → Clear History and Website Data.
Private or incognito windows discard all storage when the window closes, which means your history will not be saved between sessions.
8. Clear your Circuitbrowsly data right now
The buttons below act only on this browser and only on keys created by Circuitbrowsly. Nothing is sent anywhere.
9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because we run no cross-site tracking, there is nothing for a DNT or GPC signal to disable. We nevertheless treat such a signal as a request to keep optional categories switched off, and we will never enable analytics or benchmark sharing without an explicit opt-in.
10. Changes to this policy
If we ever add a new storage item, this table will be updated before the item ships, the “Last updated” date will change, and — where the item is non-essential — we will ask for your consent again.
